W.U.A.C. World Union of Akita Clubs

WUAC General Assembly and JKC Specialty Show at the FCI European Section Show in Slovenia 2010

At the first weekend in October the World Union of the Akita Clubs general meeting has taken place in Slovenia. At this meeting we decided to give 2 more years support to the Sebaceous Adenitis research from PD Dr. Ina Pfeiffer, University of Kassel. It seems that the new methods could bring a breakthrough into the research but anyway until today we have too less blood samples from SA affected Akita/American Akita to get a meanful test.

The delegates also decided to change the JKC/WUAC Specialty Show each 2 years. We decided to have our own show beside the big international shows. We will start in 2012 in the northern part of Italy and in 2014 the JKC/WUAC Specialty will take place in Germany with the following schedule:

  • Friday - WUAC General meeting and a seminar about Japanese breeds.
  • Saturday - all Japanese breed show and
  • Sunday an Akita Specialty show.
  • We hope that concept will work and bring the Akita fancier and the fancier of the Japanese breeds in close collaboration.

    Angelika Kammerscheid-Lammers,
President of the German Akita Club and WUAC Vice President

WUAC General Assembly and JKC Specialty Show at the FCI European Section Show in Budapest 02. until 05.10.2008

At the WUAC General Assembly, besides the voting for the Helsinki protocol and the financial report, the current situation in Czech Republic, Spain and France was discussed. The Czech Republic Akita Club takes great care of the Akita and paid the WUAC membership fee prompt, but they still have problems with their National Kennel Club. As for the Akita Clubs from France and Spain, nobody could come in contact.

Because Spain has not paid the WUAC membership fee for more than 4 years successively, the WUAC membership of Spain is revoked.

PD Dr. Ina Pfeiffer, University of Kassel, has given a position to lecture about the Sebaceous Adenitis research. Not only because of the limited financial situation, the research was only able to handled on „simmer over low flame“. The most serious problem is the lack of blood sample from the SA affected Akita which presently do not permit the certification of the research results.

As the JKC/WUAC want to point out the great interest on the SA research, the WUAC offers that each person who sent

    • the blood sample (2 ml – EDTA-Vollblut - see www.wuac.info – SA research)
    • a copy of the pedigree and
    • the copy of the laboratory-confirmed SA diagnostic to Kassel University –PD Dr. Ina Pfeiffer –, will get 50 US Dollar + a nice gift from Japan.
Dr. Pfeiffer sends the name and address of the owner of the SA affected Akita to the WUAC Secretariat and they arrange the money and the gift for the donator.

Furthermore, Dr. Pfeiffer has given a very interesting lecture about the „Cluster analyse“and the analysis option by pedigree statistic.

The General Assembly decided the following breeding recommendations:

      Breeding Guidelines for the Akita:

This guideline should be considered as the Breeding Guidelines for the Akita that the WUAC finds desirable, and this guideline should not interfered the rules and regulations established by the FCI member organization (or the all breed organization recognized by the FCI). However, in case any country is to set the breeding rules and regulations for the Akita. The WUAC wishes this guideline to be respected.

We, the WUAC, hereby establish the Breeding Guidelines for the Akita in order to promote the breeding program for developing typical and healthy Akita.
1.The Akita to be used for breeding must be registered with the member club of the WUAC and identified by the microchip or tattoo.
2.The male Akita to be used for mating must be at least 15 month of age.The female Akita to be used for mating must be at least 18 months of age at the date of her first mating. The brood bitch can produce only one litter per year; however, after 8 years of age, she is no longer allowed to be used for breeding.
3.1. The Akita to be used for breeding must be registered with the FCI member organization (or the all breed organization recognized by the FCI) and must have the Pedigree Certificate issued by the said organization.
In addition, the Akita must have the evaluation A, B or C at the HD Control and also must be evaluated as "normal (excellent)", "almost normal (good)" or "acceptable" at the ED Control.
3.2. The Akita to be recommended for breeding is the one which passed the Körung (the stud dog/brood bitch suitability test).
3.3. In the case of no Körung system in the country, the Akita must be awarded at least as "very good" in the quality by FCI Dog Show with CACIB.
      4. The Akita prohibited form being used for breeding is as follow:
4.1. The Akita which does not fulfilled the conditions of the above 1) to 3).
      4.2. Akita
      1. which has the severe problem with his/her temperament.Overly shy or aggressive.
      2. which has been evaluated as D or E at the HD Control.
      3. monorchid or kryptochid
      4. which does not have the curled tail.
      5. which has the dropped ear.
      6. with following congenital missing teeth:
-- lack of 1 or more canine
-- lack of 3 or more teeth in total
      7. of pinto or with black mask.
      8. The long haired Akita or the extremely short haired Akita
      9. Undershot or overshot (gap of 2mm or more)
      10. Under size by 3 cm or more
      11. The female Akita which had been operated the Caesarean section 3 times or more
      12. with congenital deafness or blindness
      13. with PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy).
      14. with epilepsy.
      15. with hare-lip or cleft palate
      16. with Sebaceous Adenitis (SA)

      5. It is desirable for the Akita which will be used for breeding to take the DNA test.
      6. Inbreeding up to 2-3 or 3-2 is permitted; however, extreme inbreeding closer than 2-3 or 3-2 is unacceptable. Mating between a parent and a child, or mating between siblings is not allowed.
      7. The Akita bred by the artificial insemination using chilled semen or frozen semen are acceptable. It is desirable to collect frozen semen from the Stud dog of 2 to 5 years of age. Both male and female Akita must be naturally mated at least once, and the produced puppies have to be registered.

The election of the WUAC Board members took place, and it was unanimously approved to re-elect the current Board members as follows:
    Präsident Takemi Nagamura, Japan
    Vizepräsidentin Angelika Kammerscheid-Lammers, Germany
    Direktoren Britt Nyberg, Norway
    Masanori Fujimoto, Mexico
    Roberto Brutti, Italie.
Dr. Sophia Kaluzniacki, USA, remains as the special advisor.

To save money which may be donated for the research; it was decided not to hold the WUAC Board meeting in 2009. In the age of e-mail, it is a quick way to communicate with each other and also it makes it possible to change the unproblematic information smoothly.

The next WUAC General Assembly and the next Special Japanese Breeds Show will take place in Slovenia at the European Section Show 2010 to be held from September 30 to October 3, 2010.

The past several years, the AKIHO has held informative meetings about the Akita in Italy. The JKC has no problem with that, because the JKC and the AKIHO maintain the friendly relationship. President Nagamura pointed out that the Akita with the AKIHO pedigree could only get the JKC/FCI pedigree if this offspring are born in JAPAN. The AKIHO has a branch in Los Angeles and Taiwan and gives the AKIHO pedigrees for their offspring to breeders outside of Japan. The pedigrees of those offspring are NOT accepted by the FCI/JKC.

Dr. Kaluzniacki gave a short report about the situation in the United States. The JACA has stopped their activities after the death of Mrs. Pat Szymanski. Right before the meeting, Mr. Richard Szymanski told Dr. Kaluzniacki that they want to reactivate their activity soon. The discussion about the dividing of the breed is still going on and more and more people are now realizing the differences between the breeds. Because of this, the WUAC General Assembly hopes that the United States will agree in dividing the breed in the near future.

The day after the WUAC meetings, the Special Japanese Breeds Show took place at the European Section Show with an entry of:
